Privacy Policy

Last updated 29 October 2026

VirtualNumber ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use VirtualNumber, why we collect it, who we share it with and what rights you have. We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).

1. Who is responsible

VirtualNumber is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at support@virtualnumber.com.ng.

2. What we collect

  • Account details: your name, email address and, if you sign in with Google, your Google profile name and email. If you register with a password, we store only a secure hash of it, never the password itself.
  • Wallet and payment records: top-up amounts, payment references, balances and the history of purchases, refunds and adjustments. Card and bank details are handled by our payment partners and are not stored by us.
  • Number activity: the virtual numbers you buy, the service and country, the time, and the verification codes and SMS text delivered to those numbers. These are shown in your account history.
  • Support messages: what you send through the contact form, including your name, email and any reference you include.
  • Technical data: login session information (such as browser type and a timestamp) needed to keep you signed in and to secure the Service.
  • Visit statistics: for each page view we record the page, the website you came from, your country (from your network) and a random visitor ID kept in your browser. We do not store your IP address in these statistics and we do not use advertising trackers.

3. Why we use it

  • To provide the Service: create your account, take payments, supply numbers, deliver codes and process refunds (performance of a contract).
  • To keep the Service safe: prevent fraud, abuse and spam, and investigate disputes (legitimate interests and legal obligations).
  • To support you: answer messages and fix problems (contract and legitimate interests).
  • To improve the Service: understand which pages and features are used (legitimate interests).
  • To meet legal and accounting duties (legal obligation).

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with providers that help us run the Service, and only what they need:

  • Payment partners (Paystack, Flutterwave) to process top-ups.
  • Our telecom number supplier (Grizzly SMS), which receives the service and country you request so it can supply a number and deliver the SMS.
  • Google, if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Our database and hosting providers, who store and serve the data on our behalf.
  • Authorities or professional advisers where the law requires it or to protect our legal rights.

Some of these providers are located outside Nigeria. Where we transfer data abroad, we rely on providers that apply appropriate safeguards for personal data.

4A. SMS content

Verification messages delivered to a rented number pass through our supplier and our systems and are stored in your account history. Do not use a rented number for anything sensitive such as banking, because other messages sent to that number may also be received.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a strictly necessary cookie to keep you signed in. We also store a random visitor ID in your browser's local storage for the anonymous visit statistics described above. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear this data in your browser settings at any time; signing in again recreates the sign-in cookie.

6. How long we keep it

We keep account data while your account is open. Wallet, payment and purchase records are kept for as long as needed for accounting, fraud prevention and legal obligations, even after an account is closed. Support messages are kept for as long as needed to resolve the matter and handle any follow-up. When we no longer need data we delete or anonymise it.

7. Your rights

Under the NDPA you may ask to access your personal data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to some uses of it, receive a copy in a usable format, and withdraw consent where we rely on consent. To exercise a right, contact us at support@virtualnumber.com.ng. We may need to confirm your identity first, and some records must be kept by law.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

8. Security

We use measures such as encrypted connections, hashed passwords and access controls to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and keep your account details private.

9. Children

The Service is not for anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Changes

We may update this policy and will change the date above when we do. For significant changes we will notify you on the site or by email.
